The San Francisco Bay Area is served by three major airports, situated in San Francisco to the west of the bay, in Oakland to the east, and in San Jose to the south. Most convenient for the MLA Meeting is the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC), located in the south bay near the city of San Jose. You are strongly encouraged to use SJC, as ground transportation options to the conference hotel in San Jose can be significantly more convenient and economical than from San Francisco (SFO) or Oakland (OAK) airports. Flying to San Jose & Getting to the Conference Hotel The Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) is about 2 miles northwest of the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose. Option 1--Taxi Taxi stands are located at Terminal A and Terminal B. The trip from the airport to the Fairmont Hotel will cost approximately $20-25. Passengers with disabilities or over 65 years of age receive a 15% discount off the total fare. Option 2—Bus Shuttle to Light Rail An economical and easy alternative is to take the VTA Airport Flyer followed by a short trip on Light Rail. The Airport Flyer (VTA Route #10) is a free shuttle that connects the airport to the Metro Light Rail Station. The shuttle runs approximately every 15-30 minutes from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and the trip to the light rail station takes about 7 minutes. At the airport, the VTA #10 bus stop is located at the Ground Transportation island across from Terminal B; VTA #10 bus stop is located at the Ground Transportation Center across from the International Arrivals Building at Terminal A Disembark
the Airport Flyer bus at the Metro Light Rail Station and cross the street to the platform. Purchase
a single-ride ticket from the machine ($2). Catch a southbound train (Santa
Teresa or Winchester) and disembark at Paseo de San Antonio on Second Street. The
trip is about 15 minutes and trains run about every 15 minutes from 5:30 a.m.
until 8:00 p.m., then about every 30 minutes until midnight (last train at 1:27
a.m.). On Paseo de San Antonio,
a pedestrian thoroughfare, walk one block west to First
Street (i.e., away from SJ Repertory Theater and toward the Starbucks; do not cross tracks). The Fairmont Hotel
is directly across First street on the right. When returning to SJC catch the VTA Light Rail on First Street at Paseo de San Antonio.
Flying to San Francisco & Getting to the Conference Hotel in San Jose The
San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
is located 35 miles northwest of San Jose off US 101 on the peninsula
(west side of the bay) south of San Francisco. Option 1--Shared-Ride Shuttle Service South & East Bay Shuttle.

$27 per person. Option 2--Taxi Taxis depart from the designated taxi zones located at the roadway center islands, on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of all terminals. Approximate one-way fare to San Jose is $134. Option 3--BART to Caltrain to DASH (or VTA Light Rail) The SFO BART Station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal (Boarding Area G side). BART is easily accessed from any terminal by riding SFO's AirTrain to the Garage G/BART Station stop. On BART, travel one stop to San Bruno (4 minutes, toward San Francisco), transfer to a Millbrae train (going in the opposite direction) at San Bruno and disembark at the next (last) stop, Millbrae (6 minutes). One-way fare: $4.05. On weekends and on Mondays-Fridays after 8pm there is a BART train that goes directly between SFO and Millbrae. At the Millbrae Transit Center, purchase a one-way CalTrain ticket to the San Jose Diridon Station. Trains run from 5:19 a.m.-12:25 p.m. on weekdays. Mid-day trains run hourly, while peak hour trains at about 4 per hour. The trip takes approximately to 55 to 75 minutes depending on the train. The fare is $7 one way. At
the San Jose Diridon Station, take the free Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH) from the bus depot east of the station and
get off near San Fernando & Market (about 5 minutes). The Fairmont Hotel is between Market and 1st Streets. The DASH runs approximately every 15 minutes from 6:30 a.m. –
7:00 p.m. on weekdays only. On weekends (and weekdays after 7pm) take the VTA Light Rail Winchester-Mountain View Line from Diridon Station. VTA platforms, located immediately west of Diridon Station, are accessible via
tunnel. Go three stops and get off at Paseo de San Antonio stop on First St. The Fairmont Hotel is across the street on your left. The fare is $2 one way. VTA platforms for the return trip to Diridon Station are located on Second Street at Paseo de San Antonio.
Flying To Oakland & Getting to the Conference Hotel in San Jose
The
Oakland International Airport (OAK) is near the city of Oakland,
about 35 miles north of San Jose off I-880 in
the East Bay. Option 1--Shared-Ride Shuttle Service: Shuttle service serving Santa Clara County (San Jose) generally requires advance reservation; for details, see the Oakland Airport website. Fares: approximately $69. Follow the airport signs to the shuttle stop. Option 2--Bus (AirBART or AC Transit) to BART to Bus AirBART shuttle bus and AC Transit Line #73 operate regular schedules between the Coliseum BART station and Oakland International Airport for a small fee. The
AirBART shuttle bus operates between OAK and the BART Coliseum/Oakland Airport station
daily, approximately every 10 minutes, until midnight. Service begins at 5
a.m., Monday through Saturday, and at 8 a.m. on Sundays and holidays. There is
a single shuttle stop for both terminals located between Terminal 1 and 2 at
OAK's third curbside. One-way fare: $3 (exact fare required). Travel time:
approximately 15 minutes. Disembark at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station and purchase a ticket for a BART train to Fremont (one way fare: $3.65), then proceed to the southbound Fremont train platform. Disembark in Fremont (end of line). Travel time: approximately 26 minutes. At
the Fremont BART station, go to the bus stop to catch VTA Bus 181 to the San Jose Diridon Transit
Center. Buses
run approximately every 30 minutes. Disembark at 2nd and Santa Clara. Turn right
and walk 2 blocks to Paseo de San
Antonio, then turn right and walk one block to First Street. The
Fairmont Hotel is located across the street on First. Travel
time: approximately 30 minutes. One-way fare: $2 (pay on bus; exact fare

Hotel Parking: The parking garage is located underneath the hotel and is valet only. Valet parking (for overnight guests) is on a space available basis and is $26 per night including in-and-out privilege. Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH). The free DASH shuttle runs in a continuous loop through downtown San Jose from the San Jose Diridon transit station (Amtrak, Caltrain), VTA (Light Rail and Buses). The Fairmont Hotel is across from the Paseo de San Antonio stop on the Mountain View-Winchester and Alum Rock-Santa Teresa and Alum Rock-Ohlone/Chynoweth light rail lines of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). One way fares on these routes are $2. Day passes are available for $6. Convenient bus service to other locations within San Jose and other South Bay communities are also available. easiest option is to take free DASH shuttle to the San Jose Diridon Station and catch CalTrain. The DASH runs approximately every 15 minutes from 6:30 a.m. –
7:00 p.m. on weekdays only. On weekends (and weekdays after 7pm) you may want to walk or take the VTA Light Rail Winchester-Mountain View Line to Diridon Station. The VTA platform is located 2nd St., a block from the Fairmont and the fare is $2. Transfer from CalTrain to BART at the Millbrae Station in order to travel to your desired San
Francisco (or East Bay) location. Alternately, you may wish take CalTrain to its South of Market terminus in San Francsico. Berkeley Catch DASH to the San Jose Diridon Station and take Amtrak on the Capitol Corridor line to Berkeley. To reach the UC campus from the Berkeley Amtrak train stop, take the 51B AC Transit bus to downtown Berkeley and get off at Allston Way and Shattuck Ave (approx. 20 minutes; fare: $2.10). The campus is one block east (toward the hills). You could also travel past downtown Berkeley to the corner of Durant and College (approx. 25 minutes). to the VTA Bus 181 stop at First and Santa Clara (3 blocks from hotel) and take
VTA Bus 181 to the end of the line (Fremont BART station): 30 minutes. Take
a BART Richmond bound train to downtown Berkeley. Stanford Catch DASH to San Jose Diridon Station and take CalTrain
to Palo Alto Transit Center --OR--take VTA Bus Route 522 (express fare) from Santa Clara & First
Street to the Palo Alto Transit Center. From the Palo Alto Transit Center catch
the free Marguerite shuttle to campus. Allow
at least 75 minutes to get to Stanford on public transportation. More information on visiting the Stanford campus. Santa Cruz Take the Hwy 17 Express Bus. The closest stop is at Santa Clara & Almaden (weekdays only). On weekends, catch the bus from the San Jose Diridon Station. Travel time: 60-70 minutes.
